Abschied von Swami Prakashananda Saraswati
Swami Prakashananda Saraswati
Kondolenzschreiben der Bihar School of Yoga
We would like to express our heartfelt condolences at this time of loss.
Swami Prakashananda Saraswati was associated with the Satyananda Yoga–Bihar Yoga tradition since 1982.
In 1984 she established Satyananda Yoga in Germany through the yoga Satyananda Yoga Zentrum in Wasserburg, Volklings, in the Odenwald and Cologne. She maintained a high standard of teaching emphasizing the quality of learning and experience. Slow and steady was her moto and her countless students appreciated her sincerity and her courage to uphold the integrity and purity of yoga vidya in the face of modern trends, and to live by one’s conviction.
To reach out and bring Satyananda Yoga to the German people, Swami Prakashananda founded Ananda Publishers. A yoga magazine, numerous translations of Bihar School of Yoga publications and her audio recordings became a valuable reference for all German speaking aspirants.
Her unwavering commitment to the teachings of her guru, Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati, is an example to all who have had the good fortune of knowing her, her students and friends.
She will be remembered for her wholehearted dedication, her ability to put personal needs aside and continue with the work at hand. The doors to her home and heart were always open to all those who came to seek guidance, a moment of comfort and the company of a true friend.
Her discipline was coupled with a cheerful sense of humour, her loving generosity with a down-to-earth approach to life, and her vast knowledge of the yogic science with her deep understanding of human nature.
Swami Prakashananda Saraswati lived these qualities, as she lived yoga and the teachings of the masters she cherished above all. She will remain an inspiration as she showed us that positive values and yoga do enhance the quality of one’s daily life and the evolution of one’s true self.
The sannyasins of Ganga Darshan will be offering their prayers and love during the Mahamrityunjaya havan for her peace and onward journey.
With best wishes,
Om Tat Sat
Kondolenzschreiben der Satyananda Yoga Academy Europe
Swami Prakashananda Saraswati, (Gisela Arends), was a Yoga acharya, sincere aspirant and disciple of the Satyananda Yoga/Bihar Yoga tradition who dedicated her life to fulfilling her Guru’s mission, unreservedly through incessant effort and zeal.
She will always be remembered as a pillar and propagator of the Satyananda yoga/Bihar yoga tradition, for her valuable contribution to over 35 years of active work in disseminating the teachings in Germany of pure, classical Satyananda yoga/Bihar yoga to instructors, devotees and aspirants.
Not many are those who have displayed such unwavering dedication.
Her first contact with the Bihar School of Yoga was in 1982, when she met her guru, Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati. In 1984 Satyananda yoga/Bihar yoga was represented in Germany when she founded the Satyananda Yoga Zentrum in Lindau.
She always fondly remembered the times when she was still able to travel to Munger, when everything was much more basic, the lifestyle was simple and Sri Swami Satyananda was still there and the invaluable time she spent in his presence.
She went on to establish the Ananda Verlag publishing house, where she was involved in the translation of the Bihar Yoga books in German.
In her own words she said about this,
“Swami Satyananda gave me the ability and joy to translate his highly qualified Bihar Yoga books. Over the years, these translations became the foundation of a most reputable publication house, where people can find books of the Bihar School of yoga in German”
She played a pivotal role in the yoga gatherings with Swami Niranjanananda in Aube and Volkings. She conducted numerous teacher training courses in Germany. Her yoga teaching was never about quantity, but always about quality, demanding of all who came in contact with yoga through her, sincerity, seriousness and commitment.
As a permanent guardian of the Satyananda yoga Academy Europe, she systematically and devotedly safeguarded, protected and disseminated the teachings of the Satyananda yoga/Bihar yoga tradition with a pure heart and true conviction.
We are very fortunate that she was a part of the Satyananda Yoga / Bihar yoga Parampara.
In her own words (2013 World Yoga convention, BSY) she wrote,
“With this message there is also connected the hope that we, as his messengers will tirelessly continue to carry the teachings and values of Paramahamsaji in its crystal light to the people worldwide and this with our heads, hearts and hands.”
We wish her a wonderful new journey ahead.
